Evolving LAP Mechanisms for Heritage Precincts in Urban Core Areas

This project proposes a Local Area Plan (LAP) to enhance the public realm of Manek Chowk, a historic commercial precinct in Ahmedabad’s Old City. It addresses challenges like overcrowding, unregulated vending, traffic congestion, and poor infrastructure while preserving the area's heritage character. The study integrates stakeholder consultations, case studies from other urban renewal projects, and spatial analysis to develop implementable design interventions. Key proposals include organized vending zones, improved pedestrian infrastructure, strategic traffic management, and heritage-sensitive revitalization strategies. The project presents a phased approach to balance commercial vibrancy with heritage conservation.

Ahmedabad DP 2041: A case of intensive urban development

This project presents a strategic vision for Ahmedabad’s urban expansion and transformation by 2041. It integrates zoning reforms, transit-oriented development, infrastructure planning, and heritage conservation. Key components include boundary delineation, population estimation, economic growth strategies, road network optimization, and environmental sustainability measures. The plan proposes compact city principles, incentives for redevelopment, heritage-sensitive policies, and enhanced public transport networks. Comparative case studies of Vienna and Prague provide insights into global planning approaches. The project balances urban intensification with sustainability to create a resilient and adaptive city.

Local Area Plan for Urban Renewal of Gheekanta, Ahmedabad

This project focuses on revitalizing Gheekanta, a heritage-rich precinct in Ahmedabad’s Old City, in response to the newly developed metro station. The plan aims to enhance livability while preserving the area's historical character through heritage-sensitive zoning, transit-oriented development, and infrastructure improvements. Key interventions include form-based zoning, heritage conservation strategies, public realm enhancements, mobility and parking management, and financial mechanisms like heritage TDR (Transferable Development Rights). The project integrates stakeholder consultations and global urban planning models to create a sustainable and inclusive vision for the neighborhood's future.

Urban Patterns and Analysis Study

This study employs statistical techniques to analyze household distribution patterns in Ahmedabad. It explores relationships between total households, permanent households, workforce population, and literacy rates using histograms, scatterplots, and regression models. Key findings include a strong positive correlation between total and permanent households (R² = 0.99) and insights into state-wise variations. The analysis highlights how log transformations improve regression accuracy and how different variables impact urban household distribution, providing a data-driven understanding of urbanization trends.

Vastral : The making of Peri-urban Area in Eastern Ahmedabad

This study explores the urban transformation of Vastral, a peri-urban area in East Ahmedabad, as it transitions from a rural settlement to an urbanized precinct. It examines the dynamics of urban expansion, land use patterns, housing typologies, accessibility, and socio-economic conditions. Key insights include the impact of auto-construction, the informal city-village interface, peripheralization, and the challenges of walkability and public transport connectivity. Through comparative analysis with other peripheral precincts, the study highlights how market-driven development influences spatial planning and livability in the urban periphery.
